2014 Toyota Highlander Is Good Value but Unexciting, CR Says

Toyota has been making the Highlander in Indiana since the second generation came out in 2007. That's plenty of time to for them to figure out what consumers want in this segment: very well specced white goods for seating up to 8 people.

This next review from the guys at Consumer Reports tells us the brand new 2014 model year which reached dealerships just a few days ago is boring but competent. Three rows of seats are have been standard kit for a long time now, and this model has more room than ever, but the thrills are missing.

Is that really a problem? Not really, since in 2013 Toyota sold 127,000 examples in the US. Prices currently start at just $29,215 and you get a standard Enture system, backup camera, cruise control, power windows all-round and keyless entry. The Ford Explorer is $30,000, and so is a Hyundai Santa Fe.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
