Toyota discovered some welding problems on a certain batch of FJ Cruiser model which could lead to a nasty crash under the right conditions. The automaker will soon notify owners to bring their cars to the nearest dealership... steadily.
About 120 Toyota FJ Cruiser units from 2014 have been found to have bad weldings in the steering system’s intermediate shaft. Under some conditions, the weldings might come apart, breaking the link between the two components and leaving the car steering-less. Thing that can lead to a major crash and serious injuries.
Toyota is currently unaware of crashes, injuries or fatalities related to the matter, but it will start notify owners to get their vehicles checked at the nearest dealership and replace the shaft at no cost
Older FJ Cruiser models have been recalled in the past due to over-powered headlights which could blind other drivers. The Auxiliary Driving Lamp kits offered by Toyota had 55 Watt bulbs installed which, together with the car’s normal high beam, was surpassing the maximum limit allowed by the law.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to go out of production with the 2014 Trail Teams Ultimate Edition, which comes dressed up in a special Heritage blue color, white grille, TRD Bilstein shock absorbers, TRD race coil springs, front skid plate, as well as TRD 16-inch bead lock wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich A/T KO tires.
