2014 Ram ProMaster Recalled Over Faulty Brake Hose

Last month, the Chrysler Group announced that nearly 10,000 units of its brand new 2014 Ram ProMaster van will be recalled in March over stuck accelerator pedal concerns.

Now, the automaker says it's recalling another 6,800 ProMasters to inspect a brake hose that could degrade the van's braking performance due to damage that has occurred during production.

"A routine post-production test on one van discovered damage that could degrade brake performance. Damage was linked to the usage of a specific wrench during assembly; it is no longer used," Chrysler said in a statement, adding that half of the affected vehicles are still in dealer hands.

The recall is expected to begin later this month, when dealers will inspect and replace the brake hoses, as necessary, at no cost to the owners.

For more information, owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number P03) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

The 2014 Ram ProMaster, which is based on the Fiat Ducato van, went on sale in November 2013. The vehicle is priced from $28,630 and can be had in three sizes and with a choice of two engines. The manufacturer offers a turbo 3.0-liter EcoDiesel mill rated at 174 hp and 295 lb-ft and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline engine that generates 280 hp and 260 lb-ft.
