Quoting a person familiar with Chrysler’s plans, the aforementioned source says Ram will produce about 1,000 pre-spec trucks that will be distributed to dealers in February. Customers will be able to place their orders with Chrysler dealers the same month, the report adds.

Powered by a 3.0-liter V6 oil burner shared with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is rated at 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The truck will be able to tow up to 9,200 pounds, only 50 pounds less than the V8 version and 1,750 pounds more than the gasoline V6 variant. The EcoDiesel is expected to achieve 28 miles per gallon on the highway.

The diesel option, which comes with an eight-speed automatic, adds $2,850 to the Ram 1500’s starting price of $24,200.
