Great off-road machines aren't always big-bore beasts, as sometimes technology and smart engineering can compensate for the smaller displacement. It's the case of the 2014 Polaris Sportsman 400 H.O., a glorious all-rounder ATV bringing hard-working features with comfort-focused design for recreational purposes.
The 2014 Polaris Sportsman 400 H.O. will be available in Blue Fire and Sage Green, with a plethora of Lock & Ride accessories to expand both functionality and versatility.

At the heart of the new machine we get a 455cc High Output liquid-cooled engine fed by a carburetor and delivering power to the ground by means of shaft drive and an automatic dual-ratio transmission.

Just like pretty much any Polaris, the transmission automatically switches to AWD when needed, thanks to the On-Demand drive system, disengaging as the obstacles are surmounted. Hydraulic disc brakes are standard, but the engine braking is on the optionals list.

The OEM wheels are stamped steel and the dry weight is 688 lb (312 kg). With more than 270 lbs (170 kg) of rackable luggage and impressive 1,225 lb (555.7 kg) hitch towing capacity, the 2014 Polaris Sportsman 400 H.O. is ready for the nastiest jobs you could throw at it.

Add in the MacPherson front strut and the double A-arm in the rear for a 11.25" (28.6 cm) ground clearance, and the trails should already seem easier to tackle. Base prices start at $5,699 (€4,270).
