North American Car of the Year has announced the short lists for the 2014 car and truck/utility of the year awards. The previous long lists, which were released in July, were narrowed down to 12 vehicles each.
A short glance of the Car of the Year short list reveals General Motors has made it with three vehicles, while 6 our of 12 nominations account for Japanese-based automakers, while the Germans are represented by the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Moving on to the truck/utility list, we can find three more GM-built cars - the Buick Encore and the Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra twins - and only two European contenders, the BMW X5 and the Range Rover Sport.
Winners will be announced in January, at the Detroit Auto Show, but, until then, each list will be reduced to only three finalists. Scroll below to have a look at the short lists for yourselves.
