Having recently pulled out of the Mugello racing weekend Drive M7 Aspar rider Nicky Hayden has undergone surgery in Italy. Riding with a wrist injury and in pain in the Spanish and French rounds, and falling on the same right hand at Le Mans, Nicky Hayden tried to do the same in the 6th round of the season, at Mugello, but the discomfort was too high.
After having his wrist examined, Hayden decided to heed the doctors’ advice and not take part in the racing activity, preparing for today’s surgery. The operation was carried out in Italy by Dr. Riccardo Luchetti at the 'Casa di Cura Profesor Ernesto Montanari Spa' in Morciano di Romagna. An arthroscopic cleaning procedure was involved, with Dr. Riccardo removing some floating matter from the American rider’s wrist, followed by anti-inflammatory treatment to reduce swelling and to loosen the joint. He will be discharged today and will start recovery, hopefully being fit to race next week for the Catalunya round.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa also had a meeting with the doctors of the Quiron Dexeus university hospital in Barcelona, who have checked his right arm evolution after the recent arm pump surgery. Pedrosa was forced to go under the knife on the 6th of May, but he had rather little time to rest and allow his arm to heal. Dr. Xavier Mir examined Pedrosa and advised him to get a week’s time of rest ahead the Barcelona round.

“It was painful at Mugello, the race felt long as the track is demanding with so many changes in direction, so fourth was not a bad result considering,” Pedrosa adds. So far Dani Pedrosa (96 points) is third in the MotoGP world standing, only one point less than Rossi, while Nicky Hayden is 12th, with 23 points. Hopefully both riders will be in a better physical condition for the upcoming round, the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, June 13-15 in Barcelona.
