With the weather forecast indicating a nice and shiny weekend in Le Mans, the 5th round of the 2014 MotoGP championship kicked off this morning with the first Free Practice session. Even though Stefan Bradl has led on the time sheets for a good part of the outing, he ended up in the 6th place as Honda and Yamaha factory machines got in front.
Free Practice 1 saw Marc Marquez in the lead, with a 1m34s328 lap, and getting faster and faster towards the end of the session. His team mate Dani Pedrosa seems to be recovering very well from the arm pump surgery he recently had, and was the second fastest in Le Mans, .189 seconds adrift the defending champion.

Jorge Lorenzo had a very good pace behind Marquez and looked like he would finish FP1 in the second position, but both Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi turned out to be a bit faster. Rossi now sits in third, .253 slower than Marquez, and with a tiny .017 advantage over Lorenzo. Alvaro Bautista got the best of Bradl and was 5th. The top 10 was rounded up with Andrea Dovizioso, Pol Espargaro, Andrea Iannone and Aleix Espargaro.

Bradley Smith wrecked his bike in a rather nasty-looking crash in Turn 9 but it looks like he made it without serious injuries. Cal Crutchlow, Aleix and Pol Espargaro tested the runways of the Le Mans circuit as they ran wide in different sectors of the track. Like always, we’re definitely going to get a lot of action in the Dunlop area with Turns 3 and 4.

FP2 is scheduled for 14:05 local time (GMT+2).
