An interesting debut for the new circuit Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina, as the Free Practice 1 saw Jorge Lorenzo putting in decent times and finishing the first session in the leading position.
The Cobra lapped 1m42s804, being faster towards the end of the FP1, with his best lap around the new Argentinian track occurring in the final minutes of the outing. The Mallorcan was followed by Aleix, the elder of the Espargaro brothers, 481 thousandths of a second slower on his Forward Yamaha bike, and Alvaro Bautista on GO&FUN Honda Gresini machinery .833s adrift from the first position.

FP1’s top 5 was complete with Andrea Iannone and Bradley Smith, while the next riders for the session’s top 10 have been Pol Espargaro, Stefan Bradl, Andrea Dovizioso, Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and defending champion Marc Marquez finished Free Practice 1 in the 14th and 16th positions, respectively, and will surely want to do much better in the upcoming outings and reduce the sizeable gaps (2s299 and 2s920). The only rider who crashed was Pau Bird Motorsport’s Michael Laverty, but he got away unscathed from his Turn 5 fall.

The MotoGP Free Practice 2 is scheduled 3 hours from the time this piece was published at. That is 14:05 local time, which is GMT-3. We remind you that the current world standing has Marquez in the lead with 50 points, followed by Pedrosa and Rossi, with 36 and 28 points, respectively. Ahead of the Argentinian round, Lorenzo is 16th, with 6 points.
