Dani Pedrosa is the man of the moment after the yesterday race at Brno, in the Czech Republic GP, but not only because he finally claimed victory after almost a year without a presence on the highest step of the podium. Pedrosa is the one who proved that his team mate and defending champion Marc Marquez was not unbeatable… and he also denied him the chance to become the first rider in the history of the sport to win the first 11 rounds of a season.
The Czeck race was attended by more than 138,000 fans, and the weekend was troublesome for many riders from all classes, as the Free Practice sessions took their toll as multiple riders crashed. After a hectic start with two Ducati machines on the front row and the reds performing admirably in the early race, Marquez had two clashes with Andrea Iannone, but lost the third place in an epic battle with Valentino Rossi.

With Lorenzo in the leading position, Pedrosa made a decisive move 2 thirds into the race, catching the Cobra wrong-footed and braking too much before Turn three, managing to maintain a gap of just above 4 tenths of a second through the end of the race. The weekend brought another double podium for Yamaha, with Marquez finishing outside the podium for the first time in his (still short) MotoGP career.

For Rossi, the Brno podium was the 7th this year and he also summed up 245 premier class races, now being level with Alex Barros. Cal Crutchlow crashed and was finally forced to retire after trying to continue the race, while Yonny Hernandez and Danilo Petrucci were out with technical problems. Pol Espargaro and Michael Laverty also crashed out of the race. WSBK rider Leon Camier got his first MotoGP point substituting for Nicky Hayden, while Colin Edwards’ replacement rider Alex de Angelis was just outside the points zone, in the 16th position.

The top ten was rounded with Iannone in the 5th position, followed by fellow Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso, Stefan Bradl, Aleix Espargaro, Bradley Smith and Alvaro Bautista. Marc Marquez still has a comfortable 77-point lead in the championship, with 263 points, and is followed by Dani Pedrosa who, with 186 points has extended his lead over Valentino Rossi, who has 173. Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso are next, with 137 and 118 points, respectively. Aleix Espargaro is still the leader of the Open Class, with 85 points.

Next, the MotoGP visits the legendary Silverstone circuit for the 31 August race.
