2014 MotoGP: Bridgestone Upgrades Tire Allocation for the Argentinian Round

Following the stir the new tires the MotoGP official supplier Bridgestone delivered for the first two rounds of the 2014 season, it looks like the Japanese company is trying to take as few risks as possible. And with the next round taking place on the new Argentinian circuit at Termas de Rio Hondo, a track already known for the high tire wear, Bridgestone is definitely trying to cut down complaints from certain riders.

For this weekend’s race, Bridgestone will supplement the number of front tires, allowing riders to use 10 instead of the usual 9. The number of rear tires which can be used in Argentina remained unchanged at 11 units. Even more, Bridgestone will bring three compounds at the Argentinian track, providing the teams with three hardness options, compared to the habitual 2. At Termas de Rio Hondo, the riders will be able to choose between the softer, medium or hard options.

Despite the fact that the Argentinian track has 9 right-hander turns and only 5 left-handers, Bridgestone will bring symmetrical rear tires, as the company specialists say that the load through left turns is bigger than in the rest of the circuit and the compound will wear out evenly.

With Marquez having already proved that he can be exceedingly fast with a hard option rear tire, it will be interesting to see how the 27 April race will unfold. And with Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo fighting really hard to be competitive aboard their 2014 machines, this weekend promises to be a fiery one.

The race at Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo has 25 laps, with a total distance of 120.2 km (74.7 miles), pretty close to the generic upper limit MotoGP tires can last.
