The first reviews of the new MINI Cooper S are starting to show up and the prospects are looking good. One of the first to drive the Mk3 model were the guys from Autocar.
For the first time in the history of MINI, one of their cars is fitted with a 2-liter engine. The new unit makes 192 HP and up to 300 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque, making the Cooper S reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.7 seconds with the automatic 6-speed gearbox (0.1 seconds slower with the manual).

Of course, the emissions were also taken down and so has the fuel consumption but the most important thing here is the way it drives. According to Autocar, it’s pretty spectacular.

The car is ‘fun, fast and nimble’ just as it should be and the new chassis really lets you enjoy your driving. Going into corners is now possible at even greater speeds and, while the overall feel of the suspension is more comfortable than on its predecessor, the car is still firm overall, with no problems in stability.

Bottom line, the new model is a step up from its predecessor. The new engine works flawlessly and is even lighter than the one it replaces, making weight a non-existing issue. All we have to do now, is wait for the JCW version.
