Here's a question for you: if you're looking to buy a brand new compact executive car, do you go for the cheaper and sportier petrol or the more expensive but frugal diesel? Today, we can take a look at the real-life performance of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C 180. It's a brand new car with a familiar engine and we think it's got a rather interesting setup which might wow people into forgetting all about noisy and underpowered diesel engines.
Based on a totally new chassis and packed with features, the C 180 version of the W205 C-Class does, however, have some flaws. Looking at the car recently tested by an amateur Youtube reviewer, we can tell that the basic headlights will put some people off. However, the interior more than makes up for this with tons of shiny metallic details and soft leather.
So what about the engine? It's the cheapest one you can buy on the new C-Class, a 1.6-liter turbo making 156 hp at 5,300rpm and 250 Nm of torque delivered from 1,200rpm. Sent out though seven-speed automatic, this averagely powered Merc takes 8.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h and comes with a top speed of 223 km/h. And if you're a keen driver, you can also order it with a manual.

Things we like about the C 180:
- The interior lighting
- Nice dark leather
- Sporty engine sound
- Clever infotainment
- Great autobahn cruiser
Things we don't like:
- Fuel consumption (5.8 l/100km combined)
- Lack of true performance
- Somewhat generic looks due to the lack of an AMG body kit
