2014 Marked Rolls-Royce’s Highest Sales in the Marque’s 111-Year History

Even though nowadays Rolls-Royce belongs to BMW, the two companies couldn’t be more different. Sure, the ultra-luxurious cars made in Goodwood use Bavarian tech here and there, but a simple look over the sales charts will reveal just how big the gap between them is.
Speaking of sales, last year was the most productive in the brand’s 111-year long history. Don’t expect huge numbers though, as the super-luxury segment is not for everyone but combined with the average price a Rolls has, you can imagine the profits are pretty high.

4,063 cars were delivered to customers worldwide over the last 12 months, marking a 12 percent increase and the fifth consecutive record year in sales. Of course, that also means that the double-R logo is still atop the super-luxury segment.

Looking over how the numbers evolved since BMW took over, you can actually see how big of a difference the transaction made. For example, in 2003, the Brits managed to sell only 300 cars, around 13 times less than 11 years later.

Of course, over those years, the offering changed, more models being added to the lineup, but it’s still an impressive growth nonetheless. The numbers were on the rise ever since 2003 with only a slight drawback being recorded in 2009, when the crisis hit. Even so, ever since, the sales went up from 1,002 units in the aforementioned year to over 4,000 in 2014.

The American Phantom is still leading the chart

The North American continent recorded a growth of 30 percent in demand, while the Middle East also increased demand by 20 percent, but Europe overtook both with a 40 percent increase.

As far as market distribution goes, the US is still number one worldwide followed by mainland China and the United Arab Emirates coming in to complete the podium. Speaking of which, the best-selling dealership worldwide was Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Abu Dhabi.

Since the growth was impressive in the last year, six new dealerships were opened worldwide in Mexico City, Calgary (Canada) and the Gold Coast (Australia) amongst others. Right now, there are 127 dealerships open across the globe.

The best-selling model is still the Phantom, despite the Ghost Series II that we tested being launched this year and the Wraith coming in with a lower price tag. Most cars sold benefitted from complex Bespoke configurations.
