2014 Lexus IS to Be a Revolution Rather Than an Evolution

Lexus’ 3-Series rival, the IS, has always been appreciated as a good car for people who don’t want a BMW. It has never really sold that well, so now, Lexus are going to refine the formula, for the upcoming 2014 IS.
Perhaps refine is too gentle a word for what they have in store, as the new IS will be completely different to the current model. According to autoguide.com, who have obtained statements made by Lexus’ marketing manager from Australia, Peter Evans, who went on to say ”When you’re a challenger brand and you’re number four [in sales], you can’t afford to be evolutionary [. . .] On the IS we realized it needs to be more focused [. . .] The IS doesn’t have to play a comfort role for us.

This all means that the engineers and designers starting with a clean sheet of paper new .cad or .max file, and they can make the next IS into whatever they think will sell best, and judging by the previously mentioned statements, we expect it to be bold in terms of design (wider, lower and more aggressive in its stance), as well as less comfortable and much sportier than one would expect a Lexus to be.

Also, considering the fact that Toyota, Lexus’ parent brand, has announced that it will be focusing on the styling of its cars more from now on, maybe some of that philosophy will trickle down to the luxury manufacturer as well. Another rumor surrounding the car is the fact that it could be underpinned by a modified version of the GT-86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ platform, and as much as we would like that, it seems a bit far fetched at the moment.
