In a recent Head 2 Head, MT's Jonny Lieberman said something very few people have: that the 2014 Lexus IS F Sport is ugly. He said Lexus designers created a shape that's not found anywhere else in nature.
We think the spindle grille is really not the problem. It's got a 3D effect that very few other big grilles have. The real problem is the headlight unit. The LEDs have been separated and form an L shape, while the headlights themselves are very small and have a curved bubble shape, a bit like the eyes of an insect.

Theophilus Chin, one of our favorite car renderer, probably felt the same way about the IS, and so he took some press photos and doctored them into a new shape. His redesigned sedan has bigger lenses, which look less offensive and radical. They connect to the L-shape of the old LEDs to create a sort of bland Toyota look.

You could say this is what real headlights should look like, with bigger reflective surfaces ahead of the lenses. But the IS now looks like the cheaper ES, which is not a good thing.

Of course, Lexus isn't going to back down and revert to its old boring self, so this "eyelift" will never happen. But we'd like to know if, after seeing the real IS in person, you think it needs a makeover.
