With less than three months to go until the 2014 LA Auto Show opens its doors to the public, the entrants and theme for this year’s Design Challenge have been announced. The 11th annual competition will challenge design teams from around the world to conceptualize a car that fits with the theme “Sensing the Future: How Will Cars Interact with Us In 2029?”
This exercise will look at how humans will interact with cars by the end of the next decade, and will be judged on numerous factors including comfort, emotion, creativity, function and reflection of the brand. Participating in this year’s Design Challenge include teams from BMW Group DesignworksUSA, Honda USA, Honda Japan, McLaren Automotive, Nissan, Peterbilt Motors, Qoros Auto and last year’s winner SAIC Motor MG. From this list, it will be interesting to see the designs created from McLaren and Peterbilt.

Los Angeles is one of the world’s most dynamic cities constantly keeping its eye on the future of technological advancements that largely affect our daily lives. This makes this year’s theme of the human reliance on machines especially fitting, as it continues to connect to our senses, feelings and patterns with our cars,” said Lisa Kaz, President of the LA Auto Show.

For the 2013 competition, the theme was Biomimicry & Mobility 2025 – Nature’s Answer to Human Challenges” with SAIC Motor winning with its Mobiliant single seat urban vehicle. Each year, the theme focuses on different aspects of vehicle designs as it might related to a not-too-distant future. This year’s eight concepts will be revealed on October 26 at the Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design Car Classic 2014, and the winner will be announced during the LA Auto Show, which runs from November 18-30.
