It seems that 2014 is the official year of the hatchback turned crossover. After the Fiat 4x4 Cross or the SEAT Leon X-Perience, It's time for the Koreans to try and offer their own version. The Kia Venga Crossover arrives as a limited edition model of a small MPV available only in Italy with diesel and GPL engine variant.
According to a company statement, only 200 units of this car will be sold in Italy with prices starting from 19,700. Since the development costs aren't justified by these low volumes, we expect more markets will likely receive this new Kia model in coming months. But let's see what's on offer first.
The Kia Venga Crossover is based on a B-segment MPV and it conserves the core bubble-like design. On top of that, Kia has added protective body cladding elements, the most notable of which are the side skirts and door guards, which have a crescent wave design.
As far as the engines offered are concerned, you can order it with a 1.4-liter rated at 90 PS and running on either petrol or compressed gas. Tanks to two separate onboard fuel tanks, the model is capable of a combined 1,300-kilometer (808 miles) range.
Like all Kia models, the Venga Crossover is covered by a comprehensive 7-year/150,000km warranty. With flex-fuel capability and awkward looks, this is clearly a niche char, but it could appeal to anybody wanting something that's reasonably rugged and cheap to run.
