When speaking about the 2014 Kawasaki Z1000, one thing is sure: this bike in definitely not a toy for everyone. Aside from the fact that we're looking at a liter-class naked fighter, it's the styling which is a matter of love and hate.
On the tech side, the 2014 Kawasaki Z1000 brings revised ECU settings for the 140 hp 1043cc 4 in-line engine which delivers 82 lb-ft (111 Nm) of torque to the 6-speed gearbox. Showa SFF Big Piston suspension equips the front end while a horizontal back-link damper takes care of the rear both with plenty of settings available.
Kawa-branded Tokico monobloc radial calipers squeeze the petal rotors and ABS is also present for more control in tight situations. No riding modes have been mentioned, however.
We should also mention the new, redesigned air intake system and the aluminium backbone frame in the vein of the ZX-10R and a more compact rear subframe with enhanced sturdiness. The LED headlights in the ultra-aggressive front cowl are also a first among Japanese bikes.
For $11,999 (€8,875) the 2014 Kawasaki Z1000 is a lot of bike, and a very attractive choice for those in search of a really mean liter-class fighter.
