The next generation of the Jeep Liberty is currently in the works. with the vehicle set to hit the market in 2013 as a 2014 model. Chrysler will invest $1.7 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) in its Toledo, Ohio site in order to build the car and it seems that the company wants to redefine the identity of the crossover.
According to Car & Driver, the new Liberty will be underpinned by a front-wheel-drive platform, which will probably also offer an optional all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle will loose some of its off-roading abilities, trading these in for handling similar to that of a car.
The engine range will reportedly include a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, as well as a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The 2014 Liberty is set to become a global product, so Jeep should raise the bar in terms of cabin quality.
