It looks like the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee our spy photographers spotted only recently is on its way to the to the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
Jeep’s CEO Mike Manley told WardAuto that the Grand Cherokee will get a new diesel engine for the first time in the US, a change so radical it has to come with a facelift.
The engine in question is the Fiat-sourced turbodiesel V6 rated in Europe at about 240 hp and 407 lb-ft of torque. An even less powerful version of this engine is sold with the Grand Cherokee in Europe, providing only 190 hp, but we don't expect this to be offered. A new engine demand a new gearbox, and the Grand Cherokee is getting one of those as well, an eight-speed automatic transmission, which comes from ZF.
The Jeep CEO also revealed at refreshed version of the Patriot and Compass will also be launched in the second quarter of 2013. They will be followed by an all-new Liberty built on Fiat architecture.
