In today’s “keep your shirt on” news, the first 12,000 examples of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee are still with Chrysler, as shipping to dealers and costumers has yet to begin, The Detroit News reports.
“Chrysler Group is in the final stages of validating the updated powertrain calibration. The company will not ship vehicles until we are fully satisfied the Cherokee meets customer expectations for performance, refinement and quality,” Gualberto Ranieri, vice president of communications for Chrysler, told our source.
According to Ranieri, the problem lies in the vehicle’s all-new transmission, new engines and advanced four-wheel drive systems, which need to be calibrated in order to integrate flawlessly. Once the latest powertrain calibration is validated, the company will be able to quickly update the powertrain software on Cherokees already built and ship vehicles to dealerships around the country in quantity,” he added.
2014 Cherokee deliveries were scheduled to begin on September 30 and the delay could cause Chrysler to miss its financial targets for the third quarter.
