Two days ago (April 1st) I skipped a trick and decided to report on Team Mugen’s plans for the 2014 Isle of Man TT. Namely, the decision to line up two bikes in the electric race around the Snaefell mountain, one with John Mr. Pint McGuinness aboard and the other with New Zealand’s 9-time TT winner Bruce Anstey. Today I can show you the pictures of the new Mugen machine.
The 2014 TT Zero machines are developed from the previous year’s Shinden Ni, and now they have received the Shinden San moniker. In 2013 the TT Zero title went to Team Motoczysz and Michael Rutter, but as this year the Michael Czysz decided to take a break from racing due to health-related problems, it looks like Mugen is a favorite.

In some aspects, the 2014 Mugen San is pretty much the same bike as the Ni. That is, the San retained the carbon fiber frame of the previous version and it appears like the dimensions are the same, too. However, the bodywork was streamlined even more for better aerodynamics, while the energy storage was increased, though Mugen is silent as to how much current can the Shinden San carry around the Mountain Course.

The team says that the Shinden San can deliver 134hp, a 10hp increase for the peak power. Mission Motors has supplied all-new three-phase brushless motors to Mugen and they’re lighter and smaller. The Shinden San tips the scales at 529 lbs (239.6 kg) and it will be very interesting seeing whether the bike can pass the 110mph (177 km/h) mark. Mugen is apparently targeting 115 mph (185 km/h) but so far things have been much easier said than done in the e-bike world.

The Mugen Shinden San is good for a 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) torque, operating with laminate Lithium-ion 370V batteries and we only have a couple of months until we see it roaring down the Snaefell. Via A&R and Mugen.
