The first full-production Infiniti Q50 models destined for showrooms rolled off the line at the Tochigi plant owned by Nissan. This prefect in Japan's Kanto region is the nerve center of production for this new luxury compact sedan destined for global markets.
The Q50 is going to be the mainstay of Infiniti's revised lineup of cars and SUVs, much like the similarly sized 3 Series is for BMW.
“Thanks to the skill and constant focus on performance improvement, Tochigi has a global reputation for producing top-quality vehicles. Year after year, Tochigi sets the benchmark for manufacturing quality standards,” said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
“With the Q50, once again the Tochigi team has showcased their skill and expertise and proven the power of Japanese monozukuri," he continued.
The choice of powertrains offered with the Q50 in the United States will include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid. The European market will also enjoy a 2.2-liter clean diesel shared with Daimler's luxury Mercedes cars.
“The first Q50 is coming off the line today so congratulations. I am glad I was involved in the development of the Q50 and I wish you a very good ‘birthday’ and success for the future,” said Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel said in a congratulatory video message to the production team at Tochigi.
