The Mercedes-Benz GLA was just recently released, along with almost all its engine lineup. Almost, because the cherry on the crossover/SUV cake was missing: the GLA 45 AMG.
Even though BMW has decided not to offer an M-Technik tuned version of its X1 model, Audi is on the sport edition bandwagon with the RS Q3, so Mercedes-Benz couldn't get left behind its major competitors from this point of view.
The GLA 45 AMG will share its turbocharged M133 four-cylinder mill – among pretty much all the rest of its MFA platform – with the A45 AMG.
This means we should expect a similar 360 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque from what will be the most powerful compact crossover/SUV in the world, beating the Audi RS Q3 by at least 50 hp.
As with the A45, the engine will be paired with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with its innards tickled by AMG engineers for a sportier response and a launch control function, along with the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
Expect the new Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG to be launched sometime at the beginning of 2014, with sales slated to probably begin in March. Prices will probably be around 2-3,000 Euros more than the A45 AMG.
