Hong Kong has become the fifth global city to adopt Ford’s 2014 Transit Connect “Taxi of the Future”, the Blue Oval company announced today. Already in use in New York City, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles, the new Transit Connect Taxi, which can be ordered with either a gasoline engine or a CNG/LPG unit, will benefit from Hong Kong’s well-established liquified petroleum gas infrastructure.
“Ford Transit Connect Taxi has proven itself in taxi fleets across the US,” said Raj Nair, Ford’s vice president and global product development. “Now, we are building on that success, offering the vehicle for sale in even more markets, including global cities like Hong Kong.”
The second-generation Transit Connect Taxi comes with a lower vehicle height, improved roof clearance, seating for five, and increased cargo capacity. In addition, it can be modified for wheelchair accessibility through Ford’s Qualified Vehicle Modifier program.
Ford also announced that its C-MAX Hybrid is being adopted by taxi operators across the United States, where the Blue Oval owns nearly 60 percent of the taxi market.
