The next generation BMW 3-Series will be officially revealed in just a few short days, and we have basically everything we need to know about the new engines in the range. The entry level morel with be the 136 hp 316i with the same 1.6-liter as the 1-Series . This will be followed by 320i, which will produce 184 hp from the same displacement, and the 328i, which will allow the driver to play with 245 hp from the new 2.0-liter.

The diesel range will include the 316d with 114 hp and the 318d with 141 hp, which are again based on the new 1-Series. The car that everyone buys will be the 320d with 181 hp, but for a bit more diesel performance you should onto your money until the 200+ hp 323d arrives on the scene.

We also know that there’s a ActiveHybrid 3 coming with the same 3.0-liter from the 335i and an electric motor for a combined output of 340 hp. That’s about as much as the E46 M3 used to offer back in the day, which brings us to a very important question: what is the next M3 going to be all about.

Well, the F80, next-gen 2014 M3 has been spotted a number of times and Bimmerpost managed to capture the sound of what appears to be a V6 with a lot of turbo kick. But rumors have indicated everything from a modified version of the N54 straight-six.

We’re 90% convinced that BMW is going to chop off a couple of cylinders from the S63 in the X5 M to create the 3.3-liter V6 configuration we’ve been hearing about. The only unanswered question is whether this will be a twin-turbo or a tri-turbo with the added module being motivated by electricity rather than exhaust gasses.

Either way, the next M3 can’t come fast enough in our opinion, and we’re really eager to see how the 450 hp beast stacks up to the C63 AMG and whatever Audi has cooking in coming years.

We can also show you a number of excellent renderings created by Wildspeed, based on the numerous sightings. The images show that the bonnet hump or bulge is gone, and the car has a svelte, light appearance.
