The European model differs a bit from the on in America. First of all, it’s the front fascia, which features more straight lines and a bolder overall look. The interior also differs by the placing of different options on the dashboard, like the clock and some buttons.

Next, is the engine range. The EU Corolla is offered in 5 different powertrain setups - four gasoline engines and a diesel.

The 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i unit is the entry level gas engine you can have and it puts out 99 PS (98 hp) and 128 Nm (94 lb-ft) of torque. Coupled to a standard six-speed manual transmission, the setup returns a combined fuel consumption of 5.6 l/100 km (42 mpg).

For more power, you can take the slightly bigger 1.6-liter Dual VVT-i that develops 122 PS (120 hp) and 154 Nm (113 lb-ft) of torque coupled to the manual six. The setup averages 6.6 l/100 km (35.6 mpg) but it can drop to 6.3 (37.3 mpg) if you go for the Multidrive S CVT transmission.

There is another 1.6-liter Valvematic which is more tuned to push 132 PS (130 hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque which surprisingly averages 6 l/100 km (39.2 mpg) with a manual transmission, despite of its increased power.

The last engine in the gasoline range is the new 1.8-liter Dual VVT-i that gives 140 PS (138 hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque. This one comes attached to a Multidrive S automatic transmission by default and averages 6.4 l/100 km (36.8 mpg).

Last but not least, the new Corolla comes with a choice of a very economic 1.4-liter D-4D turbodiesel engine that develops 90 PS (98 hp) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. It comes bolted to a six-speed manual gearbox and if you are good with that you can average 3.8 l/100 km (61.9 mpg) and emit only 99 g CO2 per km.
