2014 Dodge Viper TA Races Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 458 and 650 HP 2015 Mustang

Remember the 2014 Dodge Viper TA that caused a massive stir by walking a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 earlier this month? The snake was supposed to race another C7 Z06 over the weekend, but the latter was still having its protection film installed, so its owner decided to make up by throwing in one of his other fetishes, namely a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan.

The Viper and the Huracan, both stock, were joined by a Ferrari 458 Italia and it all turned into a mufti-faceted battle: domestic muscle vs Italian exotics, double-clutch boxes vs a manual.

As usual, we are talking about highway roll races here. Yes, they’re not exactly legal, but it seems that the Scissor Sisters were right when singing about how you can’t stop rock and roll - whenever a new supercar or muscle finds its first owner, somebody is going to take it out on the interstate and battle it out with whatever metal he find suitable for the job.

The Huracan should’ve won, but didn't

As you can imagine, both the Viper and the Huracan owners read magazines. A lot. So they both figured the Raging Bull would leave the reptile behind. Why? because the Huracan in supposed to play the quarter mile game in 10.5 seconds at 135 mph, while the Viper supposedly needs 11.2 seconds at 129 mph for the task.

As for the 458 Italia, the Prancing Horse is known to require 10.9 seconds for the 402 meters of sprint and deliver a trap speed of 131 mph.

In the real world, the guys Viper pulled a pair of races with each of the Italians - these were 60 to 140 mph runs from 2nd to 4th gear. The result? Amazingly, the Viper and the Huracan were neck and neck.

The Ferrari was dismissed by the Viper - just like in the Z06 race, 4th gear appeared to be the assassin. Sure, they could’ve brought the lighter and more powerful 458 Speciale, which has serious chances of changing the outcome of the race.

However, while we’re at it, we have to explain the Viper TA isn’t the best choice for this kind of race. That title goes to the base model Viper with the Track Pack - due to the active dampers the TA is actually a bit heavier, while its aero package increases drag. Such a Viper managed to pull a sweet 10.97s time at 127.94 mph quarter mile run back in December last year.

For the fun of it, the Viper also raced a 2015 Ford Mustang GT that had been supercharged to 650 RWHP by Hennessey, as well as a C6 Z06 featuring custom heads, cam and exhaust, all with the aim of delivering 580 RWHP.

Now about those supercharged engines Chrysler is believed to put in the Viper...
