Unveiled last week, before the NHRA Gatornationals kicked off in Florida, Mopar’s brand new Dodge Dart Pro Stock race car had a successful drag strip debut by winning its maiden event.
Driven by 2012 NHRA champion Allen Johnson, the Magneti Marelli Dart qualified fourth for the Gatornationals and went on to win the shootout with a 6.566-second at 211.73 mph (340.74 km/h) pass in the final.

During the event, Johnson recorded his fastest career run with a speed of 214.04 miles per hour (344.46 km/h).

“What a great job the Mopar engineers, everybody at Chrysler Group, Dodge and SRT did. I just can’t say enough. For the last two weeks since the Phoenix win, it’s been nonstop. My guys haven’t had a day off. It says a tremendous amount about our crew, and the engineering efforts behind it,” said Johnson.

“Everything to do with the design of the Dart, the engineers took our input and really came up with a great car. To be able to do that (win in its first race) is a huge accomplishment, he added.

Team Mopar will return to the drag strip in the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at the end of the month, during the NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas (March 28-30).

The 2014 Dodge Dart Pro Stock race car was developed to replace the Avenger Pro Stock, Mopar's most successful Pro Stock vehicle with 27 NHRA national titles and back to back championships in 2012 and 2013.
