It’s been about a week since a Scat Pack Forum member spotted a 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker leaving Detroit on a trailer, and Dodge has confirmed that the special edition musclecar is on its way to US showrooms, although vehicles are actually shipped from the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario.
Introduced during last year’s SEMA Show in Los Angeles, the 2014 Challenger R/T Shaker is already a favorite among Chrysler dealers, who have placed no less than 2,000 orders for the musclecar in just four days (January 7 through January 10). Sounds like US customers still relate to classic Mopar heritage and they’re more than happy to have the iconic Shaker hood back on the Challenger, just like in the golden musclecar era back in the early 1970s.

“Based on this strong initial demand, it’s clear that our customers are excited about the return of the legendary Shaker model, which was engineered for enthusiasts who asked for even more attitude and a dose of muscle car heritage,” said Tim Kuniskis, oresident and CEO of the Dodge brand. “The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine with the unique hood and intake design makes this performance car an instant classic – much like the original 1970 Challenger R/T with the Shaker hood.”

Priced from $36,995, only $2,500 more when compared to the regular Challenger R/T, the Shaker comes with an array of cool features, including the Super Track Pak with high-performance steering gear, brake linings and monotube shock absorbers, Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires and three-mode ESC with “full off” mode.

As far as styling goes, the imposing cold-air grabbing Shaker is not the only different exterior feature the special edition has to offer. The musclecar also comes with a “Shaker style” Satin Black hood, roof and deck-lid stripe graphics, body-color grille surround, Gloss Black fuel-filler door, 20-inch aluminum wheels and the mandatory “Shaker” and “Hemi” badges. Six exterior color are available - the classic Bright White, Pitch Black TorRed and Billet Silver Metallic, as well as the eye-catching Plum Crazy and Header Orange.

On the inside, the R/T Shaker gained an exclusive three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls, a unique “K-Black” painted instrument panel, numbered “Shaker” dash plaque, premium Nappa leather sports seats, an aluminum pistol-grip shifter, graduated accent stitching for the door bolsters and many more.

The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine that’s under the hood needs no introduction, but Dodge says the Mopar cold-air intake, conical air filter and the optimized air box help deliver improved airflow and performance and “over 400 lb-ft of torque”. And to make it all better, it shakes like its the 1970s again.
