It looks like Honda is really up to spectacular deeds in the 2014 Dakar, as HRC rider Sam Sunderland claimed the victory in Stage 2. The general rankings still don't see the Big Red in the leading position, but such results are a great debut after a 24-year absence.
Arch-rivals Marc Coma and Cyril Despres both crashed atop of a sand dune, but the Frenchman came off worse than his former KTM team mate. Despres his his head and "saw stars" as himself declared. Even more, he ruptured his camel back and had to ride the last 100km (62 miles) without any water.

The first 5 saw Chaleco Lopez clawing the second position for KTM, follower by Joan Barreda (Honda), Ruben Faria (KTM) and Sherco's Alain Duclos. Coma was 9th, followed by Despres.

In the overall ranking, barreda still leads with a 2-minute advantage over Lopez, with Sunderland third, followed by Duclos and Coma. Despres sits in 8th.

Stage 3 will have the Dakar riders on a 292 km (181 miles) laision and 373 km (232 miles) of special stage between San Rafael and San Juan, with the last portion of the SS above the 4000m (13,123 ft) altitude.
