The Americans are getting really serious with their supercars. Dodge SRT has reinvented the Viper, with leather seats from the same guys that supply Ferrari and a carbon fiber body.
So what’s GM’s answer going to be? It’s the new Corvette C7 of course, a piece of American performance that will most likely bow at the next Detroit Auto Show in January of 2013.
Several prototypes of the new C7 were spotted by a Jalopnik user when he was on a road trip in Taos County, New Mexico, over the weekend. The new cars were being benchmarked against existing performance machines, such as the base C6, the Z06 and the ZR1. For whatever reason, a few Camaro ZL1s were also there.
Unfortunetely, GM engineers are doing a very good job of keeping tight-lipped, so we can’t tell you much about the powertrain of the C7, nor can we distinguish any of the bodywork yet.
