Punchy American muscle and unassuming sleeper looks must be a match made in automotive Heaven. General Motors agrees with its 2014 Chevrolet SS four-door performance saloon. If you're the kind of guy that loves the looks but needs a little more spice from its SS, look no further than Hennessey Performance's HPE600 package.
The Texas-based tuner offers multiple power upgrades for the LS3 V8-powered Chevrolet SS, the most potent being a 1,000 horsepower twin-turbo option. However, why would you spoil that superb V8 burble with a pair of turbos? Why not improve it with the sinister whine of a mechanical supercharger?
Specifically, a TVS 2300 supercharger system coupled to a custom pulley and a HPE air induction system. Hennessey's SS also benefits from performance goodies such as an upgraded fuel system, high flow fuel injectors and a custom calibration of the ECU unit.
All these upgrades improve the Chevrolet SS engine's stats from 421 horsepower and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque to 602 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and a hefty 595 lb-ft (806 Nm) of torque as low as 4,400 rpm. The standard tuning package also includes professional installation, dyno tuning, HPE600 exterior badging, serial-numbered dash and engine plaques, Hennessey premium floor mats and, most importantly, a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
For further enhancement, there's a choice of additional appearance and performance options like premium wheels and semi slick tires, transmission and driveline upgrades, interior customization, CarbonAero components, carbon fiber trim accents, a very loud exhaust system, an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, as well as brake and suspension upgrades.
On the suspension and transmission front, Chevrolet will offer the 2015 Chevrolet SS with a six-speed manual box and Magnetic Ride Control suspension in order to please drivers that seek more engagement behind the wheel. The new model is said to debut at this year's Woodward Dream Cruise in August.
