For the third year in a row, Chevrolet plans to have a small fleet of trucks cruising during this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise, but it won’t be some classic C10 pickups or K5 Blazer SUVs showing off to the millions in attendance. Instead, a half dozen 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will be cruising Woodward looking to lend a hand.
With six trucks and a team of ASE-certified service technicians from Chevrolet dealers in the Metro Detroit area on hand, the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad shouldn’t be too far away if a cruiser’s car breaks down or runs out of gas. Last year, the Rescue Squad came to the aid of 55 vehicles stranded along Woodward Avenue, and they will help regardless of make or model. Other than the trucks, Chevrolet will also have two locations set up performing similar services.

To help prevent the need for such assistance, though, Chevrolet has a few tips to keep in mind. First of all, make sure your battery is properly charged and your drive belts are in good working condition, and check the condition and air pressure in your tires. Although there are plenty of gas stations along Woodward Avenue, Chevy recommends filling up the tank and keeping it topped off to avoid accidently running out of gas due to an inoperative fuel gauge. Finally, make sure all engine fluids are at proper levels and in good conditions, and double check your wiper blades to ensure they work effectively in the event of rain. All of these things could lead to a vehicle being stranded along the side of the road.

It’s called the ‘The Dream Cruise,’ but an overheated engine, a drained battery or a flat tire can turn that dream into a nightmare for enthusiasts whose countdown clock to Woodward starts the day it ends. No one wants to break down or cause ‘The Dream Traffic Jam,’ so Chevrolet Certified Service technicians will be assisting cruisers with minor issues that can be easily remedied,” said Chris Brandt, Chevrolet Certified Service advertising manager.

This year’s Woodward Dream Cruise will mark the event’s 20th anniversary when it runs this weekend, August 14-16.
