When it was unveiled, the Stingray surprised everyone with its amazing looks. However, in this business and its specific segment, that's not all you need to do. You also have to deliver performance.
And by God, does the C7 do exactly that! It's impressive from the moment you start the 6.2-liter 460 HP V8 and go to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 4.3 seconds.
The M3 on the other hand, has a smaller, 4-liter V8 with just 420 HP at its disposal and does the same benchmark speed in 4.9 seconds. The difference is visible on the track, as the Stingray was even faster than the GT-R.
The guys from Edmunds wanted to see what would you pick out of the two, if you're a normal, sports car aficionado, since the 'Vette is right there, in the price range of the M3 (or better said, where the M3 used to be as it is going out of production).
As far as performance goes, there's no competition. The Corvette wins but let's remember that this is a 2013 car, whereas the E92 M3 is getting pulled out of production after 7 years.
Even so, the M3 would be the better choice if you only have one garage at home. It's more practical (for example it has 4 seats instead of 2) and easier to live with. Furthermore, since it's no longer built, the prices will go down as you'll need to get a second hand one.
Sure, the Stingray will have the upper hand in performance but on a daily basis, the M3 will provide all the thrills you need and will also be practical, rendering a second car useless.
