Last week, General Motors announced a massive safety recall that stemmed from five different issues and affected more than 8.4 million vehicles. One of those vehicles was the 2013-14 Cadillac CTS, which the Detroit Free Press is now reporting that some of these CTS models should not have been included in the list.
As one of the cars afflicted by unintended ignition key rotation, the 2003-13 CTS lineup and the 2014 CTS Coupe and Wagon are still being recalled, but the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS Sedan is being removed from the list since it doesn’t even use an ignition key. For 2014, all CTS Sedans come standard with keyless passive entry and keyless push-button start. Cadillac has yet to clarify how many 2014 CTS Sedans were included in the 616,179 units it reported for both the CTS and the 2004-06 SRX, but the Free Press article says that only 264 CTS Coupes and Wagons will remain on the recall list.

Although this recall of a recall could be looked at in a positive light that GM has one less vehicle with this potentially dangerous safety issue, it’s also fairly embarrassing that the new CTS’ ignition system was overlooked in the first place.

Just because the 2014 Cadillac CTS Sedan is getting removed from the list of vehicles suffering from unintended ignition key rotation, the sporty luxury sedan isn’t out of the woods just yet as it has already been recalled twice this year. In May, about 22,000 of the sedans were recalled in North America for problems with the windshield wipers, and in mid-June a total of 109,000 new ATS sedans and new CTS sedans were recalled for an issue with the shift cable.

Since January, GM has issued a total of 54 recalls that affect almost 29 million vehicles in North America.
