It’s cold in Canada these days. Heck, when is it not cold in Canada, but these past few days, things really got out of hand. The guys from Autos.ca had a BMW X5 xDrive35i to test in this harsh environment and the -40 degree temperatures didn’t make it easy on the Bimmer.
No matter what though, the X5 wasn’t built only for lazy summer days. No. This Sports Activity Coupe is bound to be better and more efficient than the car it replaces and, fortunately, does so very well.
The guys were really impressed of how the car performed in the given conditions. The heated steering wheel and seats (both front and back) make this beauty a very comfortable winter cruiser for anyone, if you’re able to look past the price tags such optionals have.
The engine and transmission combo is as brilliant as ever, despite the car’s heavy weight. The 3-liter turbo petrol unit has 306 HP and 400 Nm of torque at its disposal, sending them conveniently to all four corners of the car through the 8-speed automatic ZF gearbox.
On the road, the steering might use some more feel and the suspension settings could be improved to make the car even more comfortable but that’s just a matter of taste and everyone can configure their own car depending on what matters the most to them. Bottom line, the X5 is worth its money according to Autos.ca and, at the same time, it’s a step up from the old E70 model.
