2014 BMW X5 Test Drive by Truck Trend

You can't help but be curious when BMW announces a new car, even if it's an SUV and even if you're more into American trucks than European ones. The guys from Truck Trend were probably just as curious as we are now, when BMW invited them to try their new Sports Activity Vehicle.

So, they flew out to Canada and put two of the newest model variations from Bavaria to the test, to see what they're worth in the North American continent. The models they had were the xDrive50i and the xDrive35d.

On the inside both car exude luxury and class. The redesigned interior and the materials used really make you feel like you're inside an expensive car. Furthermore, new amenities are meant to make your life easier, like the extra 2 seats in the back, folding rear bench and many others (including the new iDrive system).

On the outside, it depends on the car you're picking. The diesel will make itself know, with the usual engine rattle and sound. Not that you'd be able to hear it from the inside though, a sign that sound proofing was taken to a new level too.

On the road, both car perform admirably. Even though the petrol variant is a lot quieter and has more power, you can hardly feel the differences on the road and off it. That's because the diesel inline 6 units works flawlessly and has plenty of torque.

Bottom line, even in the US, where usual truck buyers tend to go for other models, the X5 will turn out to be successful, both on the long and short run.
