2014 BMW M5 Competition Package Review by Car Advice

If you live in Australia, you can’t get the 'regular' M5 anymore. After the facelift the car received last year, the Competition Package model became the standard over there, despite showing just an AUD775 price increase. That’s value in our books.

Sure, don’t get too excited, the prices you have to pay for any car in the land below are still way too big, the M5, for instance, starting at over AUD200,000 ($177,900).

However, you do get plenty of stuff and, whilst it is more expensive than the Jaguar XFR-S and Audi RS6 Avant, it does come fitted with stuff you’ll never get on either of those two cars.

The guys from Car Advice wanted to see if the Competition Package model was worthy of all the hype it received lately. During their test the car performed admirably, impressing them with its slick gearbox, front-end agility, rear-drive control, ride comfort and luxury but they were quite disappointed by the steering, the stability control (that seemed to be a bit too intrusive) and the engine soundtrack.

Overall, the car received a rating of 8 out of 10, leaving room for improvement. Who knows, maybe there’s some tuning company out there that can make your M5 even better.
