The recently launched LCI BMW F10 M5 with the Competition Package was bound to be reviewed sooner or later. Sooner works best for us and Autocar did just that in Portugal, around the Estoril Race Track.
So, what's new on the Competition Package M5? FIrst of all, the engine gets 15 extra ponies, making it the most powerful car in the BMW line-up for the moment and ever as a matter of fact.

575 HP is no nonsense and judging by what BMW did in the past, we think there's a lot more lurking under that bonnet than what they claim. The chassis has been slightly reworked to feel more agile and faster on the track.

The rear Active M differential is now fitted with a standalone control unit and the car sits 10 mm lower whilst the DSC in MDM mode will allow you to achieve an even greater slip angle.

The most important upgrade are the brakes though. The Ceramic Carbon Brakes, dressed in gold are the real deal. If all previous reviews of the M5 complained about the brakes (that being the only complaint) this time, the CCB do a hell of a job, taking pounding after pounding and never even making a sound.

Bottom line, the ZCP M5 makes sense, especially if you're used to taking it to the limit on a race track. This thoroughbred is made for quick circuits and not to be driven around town and showed off to your friends. You got other cars for that, keep this one on the track!
