2014 BMW M3 Will Have a Limited-Slip Differential Capable of 100% Lockup

Browsing through the new features of the 2014 M3 and M4 models I stumbled upon something that’s looking almost too good to be true. It seems like the new cars will be using a special limited-slip differential that is capable of 100% lockup.

This is a rare feat even in the supercar league, few of them being fitted with such amenities and yet, the press releases says it clearly: “the degree of lock – which may be anywhere between 0 and 100 per cent – is adjusted as required within a fraction of a second”.

If this turns out to be true and not just some marketing scheme, we’re in for a big surprise, the M3 and M4 really shaping up to meet the highest of expectations.

Next to the LSD, the cars will also be benefiting from the M Dynamic Mode subfunction of the DSC that allows you to go overboard in complete safety. The system intervenes, allowing you to achieve greater wheel slip and easier drifting when you want it but it will also keep you in check if you go too far (unless you deactivate it completely).
