For those of you that don't know what Active sound means, it's a fancy term for BMW's system that plays synthetic sound noise inside your cabin, through the speakers. The system was first used on the F10 M5 and F13 M6.
Now, we're seeing it being transplanted on the new M3 and M4. Whilst purist will deem the car unworthy of their attention just for this reason, they should know that it can be disabled at any time, to just enjoy the normal exhaust sound.

Talking about the exhaust sound, you should know that BMW fitted the new cars with an innovative flap arrangement in the twin-pipe exhaust system. They are electronically controlled and minimize the exhaust back-pressure, creating a new, lower growl, claimed to be somewhat similar to the M sound we've grown accustomed to.

We can't really tell just now if using the Active Sound system is a mistake or if it will be popular amongst the customers but we can't wait to test the new cars and share our hands-on impressions.
