2014 BMW M235i Review by Car and Driver

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that what BMW tried to do with the M235i. Looking over its specs and price you’d be hard pressed not to figure out that they wanted a car that would resemble the emblematic E46 M3. Did they succeed, though?

The guys from Car and Driver certainly seem to think so. They were also on the scene at the International Press Event that put journalists from around the world face to face with the new M235i and decided to share the impressions.

As it is the custom with BMWs, the car’s engine and transmission were flawless. Sure, it would’ve been better if a manual version was available but the 8-speed auto did well nonetheless.

The car has plenty of grip and it shows it in the tightest corners. However, you can also make its tail slide quite a bit, without too much effort, when you want it too (once again, the manual is the recommended choice here too).

Compared to the E46 M3 we talked about earlier, the M235i is a much more reasonable choice. When the M3 came out originally, it was a lot more expensive than the $44,000 BMW is asking for this car. Furthermore, the 2er is just as or even faster than the full-on M car from 2 generations before, whilst also keeping you in touch with every possible optional feature you might need.
