The i3 is set to be arriving in a dealership near you somewhere in November if you live in the EU or later on this year if you're in the States. The car is not only rewriting urban travel but also the way people review cars.
It's an EV for for this reason alone, regular automotive journalists aren't enough to speak their mind. BMW had to go to environmentalists and EV enthusiasts for this and the guys from Green Car Reports were amongst the first to be invited to Amsterdam to test the new car.

Why Amsterdam? Because it's one of the busiest cities in Europe (and possibly the world), the perfect playing ground for the i3 and its claimed urban-conquering features. Did it deliver?

You bet it did! The guys drove it around town for 2 days and the end of both of them they didn't feel exhausted and sickened by the traffic, like they would in a conventional car. Around town the i3 is fantastic.

The interior was designed in a revolutionary way that simply takes your mind of small details and simply calms you down. Furthermore, the materials used give you a soothing feel.

The driving experience is also a delight, as the engineers promised. One-pedal driving is more than possible and it takes only a couple of hours to get used to it. The engine brake is so powerful that you rarely need to use the traditional brake pedal.

Range is also an issue but BMW is so confident in the car's potential that is actually trying to convince customers that they don't need the Range Extender feature. If someone asks for the add-on, the dealerships will offer an i3 for a week to prove them wrong.

There are a lot of things to be said of the i3. It's a great car for crowded cities and for daily usage. But it's not so great at highway speeds and fast cornering, where its limits show up, making you wish for a 3 Series.

However, that was now why the i3 was built in the first place. The i3 does exactly what it's supposed to do and gives you a premium feel along the way.
