2014 BMW i3 Review by Road & Track

BMW is having a hard time sending the message the i3 is supposed to send out to all those die-hard, rubber-burning fans of the brand. The new car is not meant for drag racing or taking to fast circuits around the world, it was built from the ground up as an Electric Vehicle and it doesn’t pretend to be more.

The whole idea behind the i3 was to give the world an urban electric cruiser that will get the job done with no emissions whilst also allowing you to enjoy the luxury amenities in it, like the eucalyptus dash and the naturally tanned leather on the seats.

The guys from Road & Track accepted BMW’s invitation to test the i3 in Amsterdam and, once they left their prejudices behind, were quite impressed by what the Germans managed to achieve. This car is unlike no other.

The level of technology infused in this car is beyond what you could possibly imagine. The one pedal driving mode is perfectly doable after just a couple of minutes, thus leaving you to press the brake pedal seldom. The iPhone app allows you to do so many things, you’ll need a couple of hours just to get used to it.

From charging times, starting the engine, warming up the battery, navigation options to honking the horn, everything can be done from your iPhone. For example, when you leave the car and can no longer use its navigation system, the app will show you where to go and with what (public transportation, on foot, etc) to get to your destination.

Bottom line, the i3 does what it’s supposed to, perfectly! The only problem it has, is that it still has to convince people it’s worth the money and that problem, we presume, will be solved in the following months. All you have to do is drive it on your daily commute in a traffic jammed day.
