With the 3rd generation BMW X5, the Bavarians are making it look as if they're trying just to improve on the last model, rather than reinvent the Sports Activity Vehicle. That being said, you shouldn't be surprised of the design of the new model.
Actually, the F15 model has a new chassis and new technology underneath all that metal but the way it looks won't let you know. Compared to the E70 model, the front fascia has been slightly redrawn, with the headlights merging into the kidney grilles, whilst at the back, the taillights look a lot like the ones on the X3.

Inside is where you'll find most of the changes, as the guys from MotorTrend found. Considering what customers complained about, the new X5 has a much better noise canceling system and the dash has been redesigned, in order to bring a more premium feel.

The materials used inside are top notch, as we've been getting used to, with some leathers being available only for this model. Being the second row of seats, you'll now find a third thus transforming the X5 into a 7-people carrier.

The engines available at first, at least in the US, are the 3-liter diesel with 258 HP and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque, a 3-liter petrol unit with 306 HP and 400 Nm (300 lb-ft) of torque and a 4.4-liter V8 unit with 450 HP and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque.

Whilst the first one does everything you need with ease and incredible fuel efficiency, the latter is more than that and will make you think you died and went to car heaven.

On the road, both engines feel good and the handling of the car is almost like in a sedan rather than in an SUV. The car is agile on tarmac and capable off-road so you won't have to worry when the roads end and you want to take your family into the wilderness.

Overall, the new X5 is worth your attention if you're in the SUV market. Other cars might have more space but lack the Bimmer's agility, an issue that was and will forever be, in focus at BMW when developing any car.
