Starting with July, BMW will usher in the facelifted 5 Series model to the world, including the US. Visually there haven't been to many alterations done to the car (and why should they, since it's the best selling 5er ever made) but technologically there have been a couple of changes.
The most important one is the introduction of the so-called 535d model on American soil. This model is basically the 530d one sold in Europe but for some reason BMW decided to add an extra 5 to the boot lid for American customers.
The guys from Edmunds.com were invited in Germany to an even sponsored by BMW to test this new model and share their opinion on it. They were enthralled.
It's a known fact that Americans are still reluctant towards diesels. However, slowly but surely, the advantages of these fuel efficient cars will soon start to make sense, even on the North American continent.
Take a look at this car: it has a 3-liter 258 HP engine under the bonnet that produces 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. That's more than enough to send the car up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.3 seconds and crush your lungs while doing it, keeping the fuel consumption to an incredible 44.4 mpg (5.3 l/100 km) on average.
If that isn't a good offer, I don't know what is. Furthermore, the new engines are even more silent that the previous ones and the differences are getting harder and harder to spot.
Other improvements include the new suspension settings, the revised chassis and brand new steering that was considered by many this car's Achilles' heel. Now things look better than ever and the LCI should sell even better than the original F10.
