Living in Australia is a hard thing to do on a daily basis, considering just how many deadly animals they have over there. Thank God there are BMWs around to smooth things over every once in a while.
Sure, not everyone can afford them but they do offer some of the best experiences behind the wheel. The same goes for the brand new F10 5 Series LCI. The refreshed model got a lot of extra kit as standard and the guys from Car Advice set out to find out if the Bavarian brand is still the best in the field.

Australia gets almost every model in the range, starting with the 520i and the frugal 520d and going up to the expensive 550i model. Almost all of them were available for a test and, most importantly, in various trim levels.

The cars hold up well to their predecessors' levels. Sure, the 520i could use a bit more power, whilst the 550i could be a bit cheaper but bottom line, the 5 Series is well within the confines of the segment.

Steering lacks feedback as people complained and, here and there, the car feels bouncy, but both of these problems can be fixed with optional features like the Adaptive Suspension and Variable Steering Control. The problem is that they should really be standard features.

Inside you'll find a luxurious cabin decked with premium materials that feel good to the touch. There's also the new iDrive touch with its numerous new functions that will help you connect better to the car and the road.

Bottom line, the LCI 5er offers a lot more kit for the money and sports noticeable improvements over the previous model but it can still be improved, if we're splitting hairs.
