2014 BMW 535d Review by Road & Track

With the new marketing and naming schemes BMW is currently using, it’s hard to keep trace of what kind of engine a certain Bimmer has just by the badge on its boot lid.

For example, in the US, the 535d is exactly the same car as the 530d sold in Europe and virtually everywhere else in the world. It’s using a 3-liter single turbo diesel engine with 258 HP instead of the bi-turbo unit used on 535d models around the world that makes 313 HP. The guys from Road & Track took a US 535d for a quick spin, here’s what they thought of it.

The 5er feels solid, torquey and satisfying thanks to its 560 Nm of torque and brilliant transmission. Furthermore, the big sedan doesn’t show its size, being usable every day in every situation. The looks of the LCI model were also praised alongside the handling and comfort it offers.

On the downside you’ll find, as usual, the pricing, steering, dull interior and a new one, the multi-function shifter. This is the first time I heard someone complain about that.
